Katsuki finds his balls and asks Izuku on a date exactly three weeks before he disappears. The war is over, UA is rebuilding and lowering their defences, and it just feels right.
They never get the date, but three days before he leaves, they do get a kiss.
While Katsuki is still giddy and high on adrenaline, seventeen and basking in what must be love for the first time, Izuku gets snatched from right beneath their noses.
Now, years have passed, and he is back home. He is grown, strong, and quiet; he is not the same.
Katsuki never thought he would miss the mumbling.
